But when bullies trashed his drawings and he failed a big exam, fake friends ghosted him. During the school art fest adventure—a mural contest with weather challenges—rain poured, smudging everyone’s work. Arjun’s new “fans” ran for cover, leaving paints and ladders.
His old pal, shopkeeper’s son Ravi, braved the downpour, holding tarps, remixing colors, and cheering, “We’ll make it rainbow-strong!” They rebuilt a stunning mural of unity, turning storm water into art. Judges loved it, awarding first place amid applause!
Nurse Lakshmi beamed, reciting an ancient Tamil Kural:
Maṟavaṟka māsuṟṟār kēṇmai tuṟavaṟka
Tuṉbattuḷ tuppāyār naṭpu.
மறவற்க மாசற்றார் கேண்மை துறவற்க
துன்பத்துள் துப்பாயார் நட்பு.
“Arjun, never forget pure hearts’ kindness. Never leave friends who propped you up in pain—they’re gold!”
Arjun shared his trophy with Ravi. The mural inspired the school. Mom added, “Real friends shine brightest in darkness.” Arjun grinned, loyalty locked in his heart.

Never forget the kindness of the faultless; never abandon the friendship of those who were your support in times of sorrow.

துன்பத்தில் துணைந்த நட்பு
கோயம்புத்தூரில் உள்ள ஒரு பரபரப்பான மருத்துவமனையில் செவிலித்தாய் லக்ஷ்மி வேலை பார்த்து வந்தார்.
அவருடைய 12 வயது மகன் அர்ஜுன், வார இறுதிகளில் அம்மாவுக்கு உதவுவதற்காக மருத்துவமனைக்கு வந்து போவான்.
அர்ஜுனுக்கு ஓவியம் வரைவது மிகவும் பிடித்தது. பள்ளியில் நடத்தப்படும் ஓவியப் போட்டிகளில் அவன் அடிக்கடி வெற்றி பெறுவான். பரிசு கிடைத்தால் அதை நண்பர்களுடன் பகிர்ந்து மகிழ்வான். வெற்றி பெற்ற நாட்களில் அவனைச் சுற்றி நண்பர்கள் நிறைய இருந்தார்கள்.
ஆனால் ஒருநாள் சில குறும்புக் குழந்தைகள் அவன் வரைந்த ஓவியங்களை கிழித்து சேதப்படுத்திவிட்டார்கள். அதே நேரத்தில் முக்கியமான ஒரு தேர்விலும் அர்ஜுன் தோல்வியடைந்தான். அந்தச் சமயத்தில் அவனைச் சுற்றி இருந்த பல “நண்பர்கள்” மெதுவாக விலகிப் போய்விட்டார்கள்.
அர்ஜுனின் மனம் மிகவும் உடைந்தது.
அப்படியான நேரத்தில் பள்ளியில் பெரிய ஓவியத் திருவிழா ஒன்று நடத்தப்பட்டது. மாணவர்கள் எல்லோரும் சேர்ந்து பள்ளி சுவரில் பெரிய சுவர் ஓவியம் வரைய வேண்டும் என்ற போட்டி.
போட்டி நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கும்போது திடீரென்று வானம் கருமேகமாகி, கனமழை பெய்ய ஆரம்பித்தது. மாணவர்கள் வரைந்த ஓவியங்கள் மழைநீரில் கரைந்து போகத் தொடங்கின.
அர்ஜுனின் புதிய “பேன்ஸ்” எல்லோரும் உடனே ஓடி ஒளிந்தார்கள். தூரிகைகள், நிறங்கள், ஏணிகள்—எதையும் கவனிக்காமல் அப்படியே விட்டுவிட்டு ஓடிவிட்டார்கள்.
அந்த நேரத்தில் அர்ஜுனின் பழைய நண்பன் ரவி மட்டும் அவனை விட்டு போகவில்லை. அருகிலுள்ள கடைக்காரரின் மகன் அவன்.
மழையைப் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் தார்பாய் பிடித்து ஓவியத்தை பாதுகாத்தான். கரைந்துபோன நிறங்களை மீண்டும் கலந்து,
“கவலைப்படாதே அர்ஜுன்! மழையை விட வண்ணமாய் நாம் இதை இன்னும் அழகாக மாற்றுவோம்!” என்று உற்சாகப்படுத்தினான்.
இருவரும் சேர்ந்து மீண்டும் அந்தச் சுவர் ஓவியத்தை உருவாக்கினார்கள். மழைநீரையே கலைவண்ணமாக மாற்றி, ஒற்றுமையைப் பேசும் அற்புதமான ஓவியம் உருவானது.
போட்டி முடிந்தபோது நீதிபதிகள் அந்த ஓவியத்தை பார்த்து மெய்சிலிர்ந்தார்கள். பல கைத்தட்டல்களின் நடுவில் முதல் பரிசு அர்ஜுனுக்கும் ரவிக்கும் வழங்கப்பட்டது.
அதை பார்த்த செவிலித்தாய் லக்ஷ்மியின் முகம் பெருமையால் மலர்ந்தது. அவர் மெதுவாக ஒரு திருக்குறளைச் சொன்னார்:
மறவற்க மாசற்றார் கேண்மை துறவற்க
துன்பத்துள் துப்பாயார் நட்பு.
பின்னர் அர்ஜுனை பார்த்து அவர் சொன்னார்:
“அர்ஜுன், மனசு சுத்தமானவர்களின் அன்பை ஒருபோதும் மறக்காதே. துன்பத்தில் உன்னைக் காப்பாற்றி நின்ற நண்பர்களை ஒருபோதும் விட்டு விடாதே. அவர்கள் பொன்னுக்கு சமம்.”
அர்ஜுன் சிரித்தபடி தனது கோப்பையை ரவியுடன் பகிர்ந்தான்.
அந்தச் சுவர் ஓவியம் பள்ளிக்கே ஒரு பெரிய ஊக்கமாக மாறியது.
அம்மா மெதுவாகச் சொன்னார்:
“உண்மையான நண்பர்கள் இருளில் தான் அதிகம் பிரகாசிப்பார்கள்.”
அர்ஜுன் சிரித்தான்.
உண்மையான நட்பின் மதிப்பு அவன் மனதில் என்றும் பதிந்துவிட்டது.
