Every year, a children’s science museum in Hyderabad held a challenge to build a toy vehicle using recycled materials. Eleven-year-old Rohan and his friends worked hard for days, turning cardboard boxes, bottle caps, and wooden sticks into a colourful delivery truck. Everything looked perfect, except for one tiny wheel that refused to turn properly. “It’s only a small wheel,” one friend said. “No one will notice.”
Rohan wasn’t convinced. Instead of decorating the truck further, the team spent the remaining time fixing that single wheel. They adjusted the axle, tested it again and again, and finally made it roll smoothly. By the time they finished, many other teams had decorated their models with lights, flags, and glitter, while Rohan’s truck looked plain in comparison.
When the judges tested the vehicles, several beautiful models stopped halfway across the track. Rohan’s simple truck rolled steadily from start to finish without a single problem. The judges smiled and said, “A model isn’t successful because it looks impressive. It’s successful because every part does its job well.”
As the team celebrated, Rohan’s friend looked at their plain truck and said, “Our truck doesn’t look as impressive as the others.” Rohan smiled and replied, “Maybe not, but every part of ours works.”
Then Rohan remembered a Thirukkural his teacher had taught him. He said,
துணைநலம் ஆக்கம் தரூஉம் வினைநலம்
வேண்டிய எல்லாம் தரும்.
Thuṇai nalam ākkam tarūum viṉainalam
vēṇḍiya ellām tarum.
Rohan explained, “Good support can help us move forward, but the quality of the work we do is what brings us the success we want.” Looking at their truck rolling smoothly across the track, the team realised that their teamwork had brought them to the competition, but the care and quality they put into their work had earned them the victory.

எல்லாவற்றையும் மாற்றிய சக்கரம்
ஹைதராபாத்தில் உள்ள குழந்தைகள் அறிவியல் அருங்காட்சியகத்தில், மறுசுழற்சி செய்யக்கூடிய பொருட்களைப் பயன்படுத்தி ஒரு பொம்மை வாகனம் உருவாக்கும் போட்டி நடைபெற்றது. பதினொரு வயது ரோகனும் அவன் நண்பர்களும் அட்டைப்பெட்டி, பாட்டில் மூடிகள், மரக்குச்சிகள் ஆகியவற்றைப் பயன்படுத்தி அழகான சரக்கு லாரி ஒன்றை உருவாக்கினர். எல்லாமே நன்றாக இருந்தது. ஆனால் ஒரு சிறிய சக்கரம் மட்டும் சரியாகச் சுழலவில்லை. “அது ஒரு சின்ன சக்கரம்தானே! யாரும் கவனிக்க மாட்டார்கள்,” என்று நண்பன் ஒருவன் சொன்னான்.
ஆனால் ரோகன் அதற்கு சம்மதிக்கவில்லை. லாரியை இன்னும் அழகுபடுத்துவதற்குப் பதிலாக, அந்த ஒரு சக்கரத்தையே சரிசெய்ய அனைவரும் சேர்ந்து நேரம் செலவிட்டனர். அச்சை மாற்றிப் பார்த்தனர், பலமுறை சோதனை செய்தனர், இறுதியில் அது சீராகச் சுழலத் தொடங்கியது. அந்த நேரத்தில் மற்ற அணிகள் தங்கள் வாகனங்களை வண்ண விளக்குகள், கொடிகள், அலங்காரங்களால் அழகுபடுத்திக் கொண்டிருந்தன. ரோகனின் லாரி எளிமையாகத்தான் இருந்தது.
போட்டி தொடங்கியபோது பல அழகான வாகனங்கள் பாதியிலேயே நின்றுவிட்டன. ஆனால் ரோகனின் லாரி எந்தத் தடங்கலும் இல்லாமல் இலக்கை அடைந்தது. நடுவர்கள், “அழகாக இருப்பது மட்டும் வெற்றியல்ல. ஒவ்வொரு பகுதியும் சரியாக வேலை செய்வதுதான் உண்மையான தரம்,” என்று பாராட்டினர்.
ரோகனின் நண்பன் அவர்களின் எளிமையான லாரியைப் பார்த்து, “மற்ற லாரிகளைப் போல நம்முடையது அழகாகத் தெரியவில்லை,” என்றான். ரோகன் சிரித்தபடி, “அழகாக இல்லாமல் இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் நம்முடைய லாரியில் ஒவ்வொரு பகுதியும் சரியாக வேலை செய்கிறது,” என்றான்.
பிறகு ரோகன் தனது ஆசிரியரிடம் கற்றிருந்த ஒரு திருக்குறளை நினைவுகூர்ந்தான். “திருவள்ளுவர் சொல்வது போல…” என்றான்.

“நல்ல துணை நம்மை முன்னேற்றத்திற்கு அழைத்துச் செல்லும். ஆனால் நாம் செய்யும் வேலையைச் சிறப்பாகவும் தரமாகவும் செய்வதுதான் நாம் விரும்பும் வெற்றியைத் தரும்,” என்று ரோகன் விளக்கினான். சீராக ஓடிய தங்கள் லாரியைப் பார்த்தபோது, நண்பர்கள் அனைவரும் அதை உணர்ந்தனர். அவர்களின் ஒற்றுமை அவர்களை போட்டிவரை கொண்டு வந்தது; ஆனால் அவர்கள் செய்த வேலையின் தரம்தான் அவர்களுக்கு வெற்றியைத் தந்தது.
