Every Saturday, the city library in Kochi hosted a children’s reading club. Kids from different schools gathered to read stories, solve puzzles, and share their favourite books. Among them was twelve-year-old Zara, who loved mysteries, and eleven-year-old Arjun, who enjoyed science books. Although they had just met, they spent the whole afternoon laughing, discussing stories, and recommending books to each other.
As the library bell announced closing time, everyone packed their bags. Before leaving, Zara quietly took a plain bookmark from her notebook, drew a tiny open book on it, and wrote, “Until the next story.” She handed it to Arjun with a smile. “Don’t forget to bring me a book you’ve enjoyed next Saturday,” she said.
The week felt longer than usual. Both of them eagerly counted the days until the reading club met again. When Saturday finally arrived, they rushed to the same corner of the library, excited to exchange books and new stories. The librarian watched them and smiled.

கொச்சியில் உள்ள நகர நூலகத்தில் ஒவ்வொரு சனிக்கிழமையும் குழந்தைகளுக்கான வாசிப்பு மன்றம் நடைபெற்றது. பல்வேறு பள்ளிகளில் இருந்து வந்த குழந்தைகள் ஒன்றாக அமர்ந்து புத்தகங்களை வாசித்து, புதிர்களைத் தீர்த்து, தங்களுக்குப் பிடித்த கதைகளைப் பகிர்ந்து கொள்வார்கள். பன்னிரண்டு வயது சாராவுக்கு மர்மக் கதைகள் மிகவும் பிடிக்கும். பதினொரு வயது அர்ஜுனுக்கு அறிவியல் புத்தகங்கள் பிடிக்கும். அன்று முதல் முறையாகச் சந்தித்திருந்தாலும், இருவரும் சேர்ந்து புத்தகங்களைப் பற்றி பேசிப் பேசிச் சிரித்துக்கொண்டே நேரத்தைக் கழித்தனர்.
நூலகம் மூடும் நேரம் வந்தது. அனைவரும் வீட்டிற்குப் புறப்படத் தயாரானார்கள். அப்போது சாரா தனது குறிப்பேட்டிலிருந்து ஒரு வெற்று புத்தகக் குறியீட்டை எடுத்து, அதில் ஒரு சிறிய திறந்த புத்தகத்தின் படத்தை வரைந்து, “அடுத்த கதையில் சந்திப்போம்!” என்று எழுதினாள். அதை அர்ஜுனிடம் கொடுத்து, “அடுத்த வாரம் உனக்குப் பிடித்த ஒரு புத்தகத்தை எனக்காக கொண்டு வா,” என்றாள்.
அந்த ஒரு வாரம் இருவருக்கும் மிகவும் நீண்டதாகத் தோன்றியது. அடுத்த சனிக்கிழமையை ஆவலுடன் எதிர்பார்த்தனர். மீண்டும் நூலகத்தில் சந்தித்தபோது, புதிய புத்தகங்களையும் புதிய கதைகளையும் பகிர்ந்துகொண்டனர். இதைப் பார்த்த நூலகர் மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் சிரித்தார்.
“திருவள்ளுவர் சொல்வது போல…” என்று நூலகர் கூறினார்.

“உண்மையான கற்றவர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் சந்தித்து, மீண்டும் சந்திக்க வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணத்துடன்தான் பிரிவார்கள் என்பதுதான் இதன் பொருள்,” என்று நூலகர் விளக்கினார். புத்தகங்கள் அவர்களை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியிருந்தாலும், கற்றலின் மீது இருந்த ஆர்வம்தான் அவர்களின் நட்பை வளர்த்தது. உண்மையான கல்வி என்பது அறிவை மட்டும் தருவதில்லை; மீண்டும் மீண்டும் சந்திக்க வேண்டும் என்று தோன்றும் நல்ல உள்ளங்களையும் உருவாக்குகிறது.
