Soon, rumors began spreading through social media. Some messages claimed that the entire festival had been cancelled. Others said the beach area was dangerous and everyone should stay away. Within a few hours, confusion spread across the town.
The committee members became worried. Shop owners feared losing customers. Performers wondered whether they should travel. Everyone wanted information, but nobody knew what to believe.
The committee chairman asked Yalini to help draft an announcement. She quickly wrote a message saying, “The festival is not cancelled. Please come as usual.”
But before sending it, she paused.
She remembered something her Tamil teacher often said: words are useful only when they reach the right people, at the right time, in the right way.
Instead of sending a short message immediately, Yalini carefully spoke with the weather officer, festival organizers, police officials, and performers. She gathered all the facts and understood the situation completely.
Then she prepared a clear announcement.
It explained that the festival would continue, but some beach events would be moved to the town hall for safety. It listed the new schedules, locations, parking arrangements, and emergency contact numbers. The message was shared through schools, community groups, local shops, and social media pages.
The next day, confusion disappeared.
Visitors arrived knowing exactly where to go. Performers adjusted their plans without difficulty. The festival ran smoothly despite the strong winds, and thousands of people enjoyed the celebrations.
At the closing ceremony, the chairman thanked Yalini for her wisdom.
Then Yalini’s teacher recited:
இடைதெரிந்து நன்குணர்ந்து சொல்லுக சொல்லின்
நடைதெரிந்த நன்மை யவர்.
Idaittherindhu nanguṇarndhu solluga sollin
nadaitherindha nanmai yavar.
She explained, “Good communication is not about speaking quickly. It is about understanding the situation fully and choosing the right words for the right moment.”
Yalini smiled. She realized that words can either create confusion or build confidence, depending on how wisely they are used.

நாகப்பட்டினம் கடற்கரை நகரத்தில் ஆண்டுதோறும் நடைபெறும் கலாச்சாரத் திருவிழா மிகவும் பிரபலமானது. நாட்டுப்புற நடனங்கள், இசை நிகழ்ச்சிகள், உணவுக் கடைகள், கைவினைப் பொருள் கண்காட்சிகள் என்று பல்வேறு நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நடைபெறும். பதினான்கு வயது யாழினிக்கும் இந்த திருவிழா மிகவும் பிடிக்கும். ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் தன்னார்வலராக உதவுவாள்.
திருவிழாவுக்கு ஒரு வாரம் முன்பு, கடலோரப் பகுதிகளில் பலத்த காற்று வீசும் என வானிலை எச்சரிக்கை வெளியானது. பாதுகாப்பு காரணங்களுக்காக சில நிகழ்ச்சிகளை வேறு இடத்துக்கு மாற்றலாமா என்று ஊர் நிர்வாகிகள் ஆலோசனை நடத்தினர்.
அந்த நேரத்தில் சமூக வலைத்தளங்களில் வதந்திகள் பரவ ஆரம்பித்தன. சிலர் திருவிழா முழுவதும் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டுவிட்டதாக எழுதினர். மற்றவர்கள் கடற்கரை பகுதி ஆபத்தானது என்று கூறினர். சில மணி நேரங்களிலேயே ஊர் முழுவதும் குழப்பம் ஏற்பட்டது.
கடை உரிமையாளர்கள் கவலையடைந்தனர். கலைஞர்கள் பயணத்தை ரத்து செய்யலாமா என்று யோசித்தனர். மக்கள் அனைவரும் தகவல் தேடினார்கள். ஆனால் எது உண்மை, எது வதந்தி என்று யாருக்கும் தெரியவில்லை.
திருவிழா குழுத் தலைவர், “யாழினி, ஒரு அறிவிப்பு தயாரிக்க உதவ முடியுமா?” என்று கேட்டார்.
யாழினி உடனே, “திருவிழா ரத்து செய்யப்படவில்லை. அனைவரும் வழக்கம்போல் வாருங்கள்” என்று ஒரு குறுஞ்செய்தி எழுதினாள். ஆனால் அதை அனுப்புவதற்கு முன் சற்று யோசித்தாள்.
அவளுடைய தமிழ் ஆசிரியர் சொன்ன ஒரு வார்த்தை அவளுக்கு நினைவுக்கு வந்தது. “சரியான விஷயத்தை மட்டும் சொல்வது போதாது; அதை எப்போது, எப்படி, யாரிடம் சொல்கிறோம் என்பதும் முக்கியம்.”
உடனே அவள் வானிலை அதிகாரிகளிடம் பேசினாள். காவல்துறையினரிடமும், விழா ஏற்பாட்டாளர்களிடமும், கலைஞர்களிடமும் விவரங்களை சேகரித்தாள். நிலைமையை முழுமையாக புரிந்துகொண்ட பிறகு ஒரு விரிவான அறிவிப்பை தயார் செய்தாள்.
அதில் எந்த நிகழ்ச்சிகள் இடம் மாற்றப்பட்டுள்ளன, புதிய அட்டவணை என்ன, வாகன நிறுத்துமிடம் எங்கே, அவசர உதவி எண்கள் என்ன என்பன அனைத்தும் தெளிவாக எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தன. அந்த அறிவிப்பு பள்ளிகள், கடைகள், சமூகக் குழுக்கள் மற்றும் இணைய தளங்கள் வழியாக பகிரப்பட்டது.
அடுத்த நாளே குழப்பம் மறைந்தது. மக்கள் சரியான இடங்களுக்கு வந்தார்கள். கலைஞர்கள் தங்கள் திட்டங்களை மாற்றிக்கொண்டார்கள். பலத்த காற்று இருந்தபோதும் திருவிழா வெற்றிகரமாக நடைபெற்றது.
நிறைவு விழாவில் குழுத் தலைவர் யாழினியை மேடைக்கு அழைத்து பாராட்டினார். அப்போது அவளுடைய ஆசிரியர் ஒரு திருக்குறளைச் சொன்னார்:
இடைதெரிந்து நன்குணர்ந்து சொல்லுக சொல்லின்
நடைதெரிந்த நன்மை யவர்.
பின்னர் அவர் விளக்கினார்:
“பேசுவது மட்டும் திறமை அல்ல. சூழ்நிலையைப் புரிந்து, சரியான நேரத்தில், சரியான முறையில் பேசுவதுதான் உண்மையான அறிவு.”
அந்த நாளில் யாழினி ஒரு பெரிய பாடம் கற்றுக்கொண்டாள். ஒரு நல்ல செய்தி பலரை வழிநடத்தும். ஆனால் சரியான முறையில் சொல்லப்பட்ட செய்தி ஒரு சமூகத்தையே காப்பாற்றும்.
