During the school talent show adventure—a light and color science exhibit—she built a mirror setup to reflect beams, but nerves made her forget basics. Lights scattered wildly; her demo flopped while confident kids shone.
Her dad, science teacher Mr. Balan, comforted her: “True beauty shows when light hits the right surface.” He recited an ancient Tamil Kural:
Oḷiyārmuṉ oḷḷiya rātal veḷiyārmuṉ
Vāṉsudai vaṇṇam koḷal.
ஒளியார்முன் ஒள்ளிய ராதல் வெளியார்முன்
வான்சுதை வண்ணம் கொளல்.
“Deepa, just as a polished surface gleams before light, and the sea mirrors the sky’s color, your inner qualities shine when facing the world. Be your true self to reflect brightly!”
Next round, Deepa embraced it. She polished her mirrors, adjusted angles honestly, and explained her design simply. Lights danced perfectly, creating rainbows across the hall. Her calm glow won judges over—they awarded her best innovation! Friends cheered her real self.
Dad hugged her: “You reflected your true colors beautifully.” Deepa sparkled, confident inside out.
Moral
To shine brilliantly before light is natural for the well-polished; to take on sky-blue hue is natural for the outer sea.

உள்ளத்தின் ஒளி
கன்னியாகுமரியின் கடற்கரை அருகிலுள்ள ஒரு சிறிய வீட்டில் 11 வயது தீபா வாழ்ந்து வந்தாள். கடலும் வானமும் சந்திக்கும் அந்த அழகான இடம் அவளுக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்தது. வானவில் வரைவது அவளுடைய மிகப் பிடித்த பொழுதுபோக்கு.
ஆனால் தீபாவின் மனதில் ஒரு சிறிய தயக்கம் இருந்தது. அவள் இயல்பாக அமைதியானவள். நண்பர்கள் முன் பேசும்போது கொஞ்சம் வெட்கப்படுவாள். ஆனால் மற்றவர்கள் போல தைரியமாகத் தோன்ற வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக அவள் தன்னை மிகவும் துணிவானவள் போல நடிக்க முயல்வாள்.
ஒருநாள் பள்ளியில் திறமைகள் நிகழ்ச்சி நடத்தப்பட்டது. அறிவியல் கண்காட்சியுடன் கூடிய அந்த நிகழ்ச்சியில் ஒளியும் நிறங்களும் பற்றிய ஒரு சோதனையை மாணவர்கள் காட்ட வேண்டும்.
தீபா கண்ணாடிகளை வைத்து ஒளிக்கற்றைகளை பிரதிபலித்து வானவில் உருவாக்கும் ஒரு முயற்சியைத் தயாரித்தாள். பல நாட்கள் முயன்று அதை கவனமாக அமைத்திருந்தாள்.
நிகழ்ச்சி தொடங்கியபோது பல மாணவர்கள் தங்கள் முயற்சிகளை தைரியமாக விளக்கினர். அதை பார்த்த தீபாவுக்கு பதட்டம் அதிகரித்தது.
அவள் கண்ணாடிகளை சரியாக அமைக்காமல் விட்டாள். அதனால் ஒளிக்கற்றைகள் எல்லாத் திசைகளிலும் சிதறின. அவள் தயாரித்த முயற்சி சரியாக வேலை செய்யவில்லை.
தீபாவின் மனம் மிகவும் உடைந்தது.
அதை கவனித்தார் அவளுடைய அப்பா பாலன். அவர் ஒரு அறிவியல் ஆசிரியர்.
அவர் தீபாவை அருகில் அழைத்து மெதுவாகச் சொன்னார்:
“ஒளி சரியான இடத்தில் பட்டால் தான் அழகாகப் பிரகாசிக்கும்.”
பிறகு ஒரு திருக்குறளைச் சொன்னார்:
ஒளியார்முன் ஒள்ளிய ராதல் வெளியார்முன்
வான்சுதை வண்ணம் கொளல்.
அவர் மெதுவாக விளக்கினார்:
“தீபா, நன்றாகப் பொலிந்த கண்ணாடி ஒளி பட்டால் தான் பிரகாசிக்கும். அதுபோல கடலும் வானத்தின் நிறத்தை பிரதிபலிக்கிறது. மனிதனின் உள்ளமும் நல்லதாக இருந்தால், அதன் ஒளி உலகம் முன் தானாகவே தெரியும். நீ உன்னாக இருந்தால் போதும்.”
அந்த வார்த்தைகள் தீபாவுக்கு புதிய தைரியம் கொடுத்தது.
அடுத்த சுற்றில் அவள் மீண்டும் முயன்றாள். இந்த முறை அவள் அமைதியாக கண்ணாடிகளைத் துடைத்து பொலிவாக வைத்தாள். அவற்றின் கோணங்களை கவனமாக சரிசெய்தாள்.
பிறகு தன் முயற்சியை எளிய வார்த்தைகளில் விளக்கினாள்.
அப்போது நடந்தது ஒரு அற்புதம்!
ஒளிக்கற்றைகள் கண்ணாடிகளில் அழகாக பிரதிபலித்து மண்டபம் முழுவதும் வானவில் நிறங்களைப் பரப்பின. பல நிறங்கள் சுவரிலும் தரையிலும் பிரகாசித்தன.
அதை பார்த்த நீதிபதிகளும் மாணவர்களும் ஆச்சரியமடைந்தார்கள்.
இறுதியில் அந்த நிகழ்ச்சியில் சிறந்த புதுமை விருது தீபாவுக்கு வழங்கப்பட்டது.
நண்பர்கள் அனைவரும் கைத்தட்டி அவளை வாழ்த்தினர்.
அவளுடைய அப்பா மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அவளை அணைத்துக் கொண்டு சொன்னார்:
“தீபா, இன்று உன் உள்ளத்தின் ஒளி எல்லோருக்கும் தெரிந்தது.”
தீபா புன்னகையுடன் நின்றாள்.
அன்று அவள் ஒரு முக்கியமான உண்மையை புரிந்துகொண்டாள் —
உள்ளத்தில் இருக்கும் நம்பிக்கையும் நேர்மையும் தான் மனிதனை வெளியில் பிரகாசிக்கச் செய்கிறது.
