புனே நகரில் 12 வயது ஹரிஷ் தனது குடும்பத்துடன் மகிழ்ச்சியாக வாழ்ந்து வந்தான். அவன் தாத்தா முன்பு மருந்தகத்தில் வேலை செய்தவர். எந்த நோயாக இருந்தாலும் அதன் காரணத்தை முதலில் கண்டுபிடித்தால் தான் சரியாக குணமாகும் என்று அவர் அடிக்கடி சொல்லுவார்.
ஆனால் ஹரிஷ் அப்படியில்லை. பள்ளி தேர்வுகள் வந்தாலே அவன் கவலைப்படுவான். படிப்பதை விட “எனக்கு அதிர்ஷ்டம் இல்லை” என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டு கடைசி நேரத்தில் மட்டும் புத்தகம் திறப்பான். அதனால் அவனுடைய மதிப்பெண்களும் அதிகமாக வராது.
ஒரு நாள் பள்ளி மாணவர்களுக்கு இயற்கை முகாமில் ஒரு சாகச நிகழ்ச்சி ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது. அந்த முகாமில் “மருத்துவ ரகசியங்களை கண்டுபிடிக்கும்” ஒரு விளையாட்டு இருந்தது. பல விதமான நோய்களுக்கு காரணத்தை கண்டுபிடித்து தீர்வு சொல்ல வேண்டும்.
ஹரிஷ் மிகவும் ஆர்வமாக அதில் கலந்து கொண்டான்.
முதல் சவாலில் ஒரு “நோயாளி” வயிற்று வலியால் தவிக்கிறான் என்று கூறினர். மாணவர்கள் காரணத்தை சொல்ல வேண்டும்.
ஹரிஷ் உடனே,
“இது கிருமி காரணமாக இருக்கலாம். மருந்து கொடுத்தால் சரியாகிவிடும்,” என்றான்.
ஆனால் ஆசிரியர்கள் அது தவறு என்று கூறினர். உண்மையான காரணம் பழுதான உணவு மற்றும் சுத்தமின்மை.
ஹரிஷ் சற்று மனம் உடைந்தான்.

அடுத்த சவாலில் ஒரு மாணவனுக்கு காய்ச்சல் ஏற்பட்டது என்று கூறினர். இந்த முறை ஹரிஷ் அவசரப்படவில்லை. சுற்றுப்புறத்தை கவனமாக பார்த்தான். அருகில் தேங்கியிருந்த தண்ணீரில் கொசுக்கள் இருந்ததை அவன் கவனித்தான்.
“இது கொசு கடியால் வரும் காய்ச்சல் இருக்கலாம்,” என்று அவன் கூறினான்.
அவர்கள் அந்த தண்ணீரை அகற்றி, கொசு வலை பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்று தீர்வு சொன்னார்கள். அது சரியான பதிலாக இருந்தது.
மற்றொரு சவாலில் இருமல் பிரச்சினை வந்தது. இந்த முறை ஹரிஷ் சுற்றியிருந்த தூசியையும் காற்றையும் கவனித்தான். அது அலர்ஜி காரணமாக இருக்கலாம் என்று கூறினான்.
